An otherwise nice weekend

September 14, 2004

I had a fun weekend if you don’t count that sorry excuse of a football game. On Saturday my wife and I took my brother and sister-in-law for an old fashioned train ride. It was a blast. We got to ride in a dining car while the steam locomotive pulled us through the mountains of Western Maryland. When you think about how important the railroad was to the history of our country, it’s just cool to get a feel for what it was like back then. And the scenery was breath taking.

That night my father and I went fishing for catfish. And lo and behold, I caught one. Only 11 inches or so but worth keeping. Pretty cool. I’m happy to actually catch a fish this year, but those things are creepy.

For the football festivities on Sunday I made Suicide wings with Suicide sauce I had bought at the bar that is the home of the original Buffalo Wings. We had been to Buffalo in May and I had been saving it for football season. I also made some very hot chili, spiced with jalepenos, red chilis, and a dose of Dave’s Insanity Sauce. Good stuff! Not a bad way to keep your mind off the game.
